About
Jon Collins is a Duke New Venture Mentor in Residence (MIR) in the Office for Translation & Commercialization. Jon has 30 years’ experience leading drug development teams across all phases of early drug discovery from therapeutic target identification to development candidate selection. He is a co-author on >80 peer-reviewed publications and is a co-inventor on >20 composition-of-matter patents claiming six clinical development compounds, with the Phase III asset Linerixibat being the most advanced compound to date. Jon previously served as the CSO of Pinnacle Hill and Director of Therapeutic Research Translation at UNC Chapel Hill. Prior to UNC, Jon served as Director of the Discovery Partnerships with Academia at GSK where he led joint academia-GSK drug discovery collaborations across the US. Early in his professional career, he received a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Indiana University at Bloomington then studied as a postdoctoral fellow in Stuart Schreiber’s lab at Harvard University. Jon actively serves as a drug development advisor for multiple venture firms, early-stage biotech companies, academic translational units, and federally-funded translational initiatives.
