About
Marianne joins OTC with a strong commitment to support the evolution of academic research into market-ready innovations with broad societal impact. As part of the technology marketing team, she connects Duke inventions with industry partners and co-directs the OTC Fellows program, where graduate students gain experience evaluating the commercial potential of technologies and explore roles outside of academia. Marianne holds a bachelor's degree in Biology and a master's degree in Microbial Biotechnology. Her research background spans plant-microbe interactions, microbiome analysis, and industrial microbiology at the University of Costa Rica, the University of Ulm, and North Carolina State University. She gained valuable technology commercialization experience at NCSU's Office of Research Commercialization before joining Duke’s OTC. Fluent in Spanish, French, English, and now learning German, Marianne is enthusiastic about the global and collaborative nature of science. She is dedicated to promoting effective science communication and leveraging her marketing and education background to foster academia-industry collaboration.
