LCMS Plus is now DaVinci Education

PTA president-turned-Durham CEO channels Leonardo Da Vinci with new brand

April 8, 2019

Durham, NC — The company behind the online platform that supports leading healthcare education programs — including seven of the country’s top-ranked medical schools — today unveiled its new brand. Allison Wood, CEO and cofounder of the now-named DaVinci Education, announced the change in an email to clients and with the launch of a new website, www.davinci-ed.com. Wood heads the company along with her technical cofounder David Wiener.

Prior to the rebrand, DaVinci was known as LCMS Plus, a reference to its primary product, a learning and curriculum management system specifically designed for the health sciences. That platform, which was developed in conjunction with Duke University, has been renamed “Leo, powered by DaVinci.”

Rebranding the seven-year-old business is a nod to the Renaissance man who inspired the co-founders to put big-picture thinking at the center of their product development strategy.

“We named our company and our flagship product after Leonardo da Vinci because we’ve based our work on one of his key principles: that to develop a complete mind, you have to realize how everything is connected; you have to learn how to see,” Wood said.

“We help educators see the big picture because Leo connects disparate and complex data sources that form the backbone of healthcare education, things like course schedules, accreditation reports, student grades and portfolios. By consolidating these data streams onto a single platform, we help turn data into insight, and insight powers progress.”

Rebranding is just the latest step in a journey that took Wood from stay-at-home mom to American Underground’s 2018 CEO and Founder of the Year. A decade ago, she was raising three kids and serving as PTA president, while Wiener worked 24/7 designing the software platform that would change the way healthcare education operates behind the scenes. Today, Wood heads a staff of 14 with offices at Google for Startups Tech Hub American Underground and a growing list of high-profile clients, including Duke, Yale, and Wake Forest.
