In the 4th Quarter, we spun out 4 new startups:
–Nursing & Patient Care Innovations (School of Nursing product called Line Snugglers; Marybeth Tetlow)

–Scanslated (SOM software for translating radiology reports: Nicholas Befera)
Funding from DIHI
–Cereius (SOM radio-labeled therapeutics for treating solid tumor brain metastasis: Michael Zalutsky)
One of the 1st companies located in North Carolina BioLabs and funded by BioInnovation Capital.
- With our partner Duke-NUS, we licensed technologies for treatment and diagnosis of dengue fever (Soman Abraham and Ashley St. John) to a small company called StratifiCare in Singapore
- Duke startups Humacyte and Precision Bioscience raised $150M and $110M, respectively.
- InfiniaML, founded by Larry Carin, won a “Best Machine Learning Company” Award
- 70+ faculty, staff and students attended our first ever “Digital Innovations Workshop” co-sponsored with MAG and DIHI with talks by Jeff Ferrante, Erich Huang and others on developing, protecting and commercializing software, data and other copyrighted materials, with a particular emphasis on how to access and work with clinical data.
- OTC participated in the BIO (Biotechnology Innovation Organization) annual partnering event where we had meetings with 40+ companies ranging from big pharma to small biotechs. Much of the summer will be involved in follow up and arranging future visits to Duke.
